About Sporter PCP Air Rifle
Sporter Air Rifle is one of the fastest growing rifle events in the country. It is still considered a precision shooting event, but it does not take the level of specialized equipment that true precision air rifle requires. The CMP and American Legion host Junior Olympic style matches in Arkansas for both sporter and precision shooters. Other matches are also hosted at the 4-H Range Events in Little Rock, AR, and also at the Northwest Arkansas Range Events in Bentonville, AR. Daisy has also introduced an air rifle match at its state championship match event.
As you can see there are lots of opportunities in this sporter air rifle discipline. All matches use a 3 position format (prone, kneeling, and standing). The matches take place indoors and are shot at a distance of 10 meters. The guns most commonly used are pre-charged pneumatic air rifles, and the most common models are the Daisy 599 and the Crosman Challenger. The Daisy matches will only allow the Daisy rifles. There are strict rules defining allowed sporter model air rifles, so be sure to ask before purchasing a model besides the two listed. This program is the next logical step up for youth involved in our precision BB gun program.
Practices will typically be once a week, and they will be outside at the S7 range, unless otherwise stated. Coaches can change practice times as needed.
